Twin Baby Products – Must Have Items for Twins!

twin babies

When I was pregnant with my twins, I didn’t plan to buy many new twin baby products. I already had one of almost every baby product still saved from my older daughter. We figured the twins could just share her old baby gear or take turns with most things, at least as infants. Other than the obvious things like car seats and a few new clothes, I didn’t really plan on buying any new baby supplies for the twins.

I soon found out that there were some must haves for twins I absolutely could not live without. Here are the top twin baby products that I highly recommend!

Twin Baby Product That’s Really Affordable – Baby Trend Universal Double Snap-N-Go Stroller Frame

Originally, I didn’t plan to use a stroller at all for the twins as newborns. For one thing, my twins were due in the winter. I didn’t think we would really need to go anywhere that a stroller was required. Besides, we had a stroller for my daughter, the kind that is made to go with the car seat base. We hardly ever used it. I was much more into babywearing, and my daughter really got used to that and hated being in the stroller. Once she was old enough to walk, we didn’t even bring the stroller with us at all. Besides, it was simple enough to just carry her in her infant car seat when going in and out of places.

I guess it was kind of silly to think this same scenario would happen with twins. I quickly found out that it was impossible for me to wield two infant car seats plus a diaper bag by myself. Not to mention trying to hold my older daughter’s hand in the store or parking lot! Bringing a purse on top of that? Forget it! A double stroller turned out to be one of the top must have twin baby products on my list.

I settled on the Baby Trend Double Snap N Go Stroller Frame based on a recommendation from another twin mom. I am so happy that I did! It’s a simple design, doesn’t take up a lot of room in the car, and it fits pretty much any infant car seat (I have the Chicco Keyfit 30). It also doesn’t take an engineering degree to figure out how to fold it up.

Best of all, it is much more economical than other brands I considered. It is definitely one of the top must have items for twins.

The only caveat to this awesome and affordable stroller – the storage. The storage space underneath is decent enough. However, if you stash your diaper bag down there, you probably won’t be able to get it out without removing one of the car seats first. Kind of a bummer, but not enough of a reason not to get it. At this low price point and with how much use you will get out of it, this is one of the twin baby products you won’t regret purchasing!

Twin Baby Must Have – A Good Diaper Pail!

Having twins means twice the diaper changes and twice the smell if you don’t have a really good diaper pail. This one by Munchkin is my pick to keep odors at bay. If you change diapers in more than one part of the house, you might even want to consider getting two of these diaper pails.

One tip that I learned as time went on, and the diaper pail refills started to add up – only use the diaper pail for poopy diapers. You can just throw the pee diapers in your regular trash.

Large Tent for Outdoor Fun

Something really helpful with twin babies if you spend a lot of time outside is a large outdoor tent like this one from California Beach Company. This is a twin baby product I definitely didn’t realize I needed until that first summer with my twins.

Not only is it definitely large enough for twins, it also has a UV filter to protect your twins from the sun. You can use it as a portable play yard and a great place for your babies to nap on the go.

Twin Baby Products to Get Two of – Infant Bouncy Seats

It really doesn’t matter what kind you get. I had one like this from Fisher Price. Some rock and some bounce. As long as they keep your baby entertained with some toys, and maybe a bit of vibration too, it will work.

The reason this was so essential with twins, and why I needed two of them, is so that I could put them together in different places around the house. Before they were big enough to roll or crawl about to entertain themselves, these were such a big help to me. They are a must have for any baby, and certainly one of the most used twin baby products in my house.

I know they do make these types of things especially for twins, but I really suggest getting two single ones instead. It’s silly to have a double bouncer when only one twin may want to be in one at that time. It’s just another big bulky thing to carry around. Plus, you might have times where you want to have them both in a bouncer but in different parts of the house.

We also used these a lot outside. Pro tip – get two different types and then when your twins get bored you can switch them to the other one!

Best Newborn Twin Baby Carrier – Weego Twin Baby Carrier

This is a pricey baby carrier, but if babywearing your newborn twins is important to you, this is the carrier to get. It is really excellent quality; I imagine it probably has great resale value based on how well it is made. (Update – I sold mine on Facebook for $70 in a snap once I was done with it).

I can’t say enough good things about the quality of the materials and the design. This is why it makes my list of twin baby products that are absolute must haves.

You can’t possibly use it enough to wear it out before your twins outgrow it, unless you are super active and outdoorsy. If you look into twin baby carriers, you will find there aren’t many options for newborns, especially tiny newborns the way twins tend to be. This one is designed to be used with newborns right from birth, even with preemies as small as 4 pounds (though always check with your twins’ doctor first). That’s not something most carriers can claim.

Must haves for twins

Babywearing twins isn’t easy, and as they get bigger and heavier this gets harder to use. It still comes in handy for short walks, however, or for places like the playground where I need to be able to bring the twins and follow my older daughter around with them. My twins love it and fall right asleep once I get them settled in it. I don’t leave home without it.

Cord Blood Banking with MiracleCord

I suggest getting this early if you plan to get one. Shipping takes a little while (it ships from Germany) and it’s not something you can expect to find in a store. If you can afford this carrier and understand that it will only get used for a few months, I would definitely consider adding it to your list of twin baby supplies to get!

TheTwin Z Pillow – A Must Have Twin Baby Product if You Plan To Tandem Breastfeed!

If you have any intention of tandem nursing your twins, you probably aren’t going to find anything better than the Twin Z pillow. Unless you plan to use a bunch of couch pillows to arrange around you, you really need a twin nursing pillow in order to make tandem nursing work. Having a pillow specifically designed for this purpose is key.

This pillow is awesome. It’s soft and cozy and provides excellent back support. It’s really cool how the middle part folds up and goes behind your back. It is rather large though, so expect it to take up some space in your house when not in use. It’s not the kind of pillow you can just tuck under your arm.

What’s great about it is, even if you don’t end up doing a lot of nursing in it, it makes a great place to let the twins hang out together on the floor. It’s also perfect for photos. We take TONS of pictures of our twins in this pillow together.

When you consider how much you could pay for one of those other popular floor loungers for babies, this is a great value. I don’t regret my purchase, and it remains one of the most used twin baby productss in our household. Even my older daughter likes to use it on the floor. It really is that cozy.

The only slight drawback for this one is how hard it is to get the cover on. You might need an extra set of hands to stuff the thing in. I kind of dread having to wash it when it gets spit up on. If I could go back I might get the waterproof version of this pillow. But this cover is so cozy…it’s a tough call.

White Noise Machine

Getting newborn twins to sleep can be challenging, especially when you accidentally let them get overtired (something I am often guilty of). If your arms are tired from carrying and rocking them, or your back is about to break from wearing two babies around, you might find that you need some white noise to help soothe your twins to sleep. If you have other kids and a busy household, you might also need that noise to help them STAY asleep. This is why a white noise machine is one of the twin baby products that I really recommend.

I didn’t have anything like this for my older daughter. We had a couple of toys that played music. The problem with both of those is they only played the music for about ten minutes. They also used a lot of batteries because they lit up. If she wasn’t fully asleep in ten minutes she would cry, or I would have to be really quick to reset it before she noticed. Plus the light on those could be a distraction.

A sound machine or white noise machine is different. I really love this one from homedics – so much so that I got one for myself too! The most important feature in any of these machines is that it plugs in. This way you can leave it on all night if you like without having to worry that it will run out of batteries.

Large Play Yard – A Twin Baby Supply I Never Knew I Needed!

large playpen

Here’s something else I didn’t even know existed before I had twins. At least not for babies. I had something like this for my dogs at one time…but anyway. Turns out I really needed this for my twins.

With one baby on the move, it’s tough to keep up. With twins each going in different directions? Forget it. That’s why a large play yard is a twin baby product that you should really consider.

Once my twins learned to roll both ways at around 6 months, they loved being on the floor. This was fine as long as I was with them, but I didn’t feel safe turning my attention away. I needed a way to allow them to safely explore on the floor. Once they started crawling, I needed a large safe area to keep them contained. What’s great about this is, I can open it up and just use it to keep the twins away from parts of the room, such as in front of electronics or across really wide door frames. I use this every single day in some way.

There are a ton of options for these, and it was really hard to choose. They come in all different sizes, some with toys, some without. Many of them come with a play mat you can add for an additional price. We bought ours from Costway.com. They had a ton of options and fast shipping.

Our play room is small and carpeted, so we didn’t need the floor mat. However, we went with a larger 16 panel model because when the twins get bigger we want them to have more room and might use it in the family room instead. You don’t need to use all the panels but it’s nice to know you can expand. You can also change the shape to suit your needs. I’m actually thinking of getting another one and just using it around the perimeter of the entire room. If you have an open concept type of home, this is really an essential item for your twins.

Even though some of these twin baby products aren’t perfect, they are still my top most used products for my twins. The ones I definitely don’t regret purchasing, and would recommend to anyone having twins.
