Feeding Hacks for Twins

Feeding one baby can be hard enough. Two at once? Craziness! Here are some tips to help make feeding time with twin a little easier!

  • Feed two bottles at once – place babies in TwinZ pillow or two Boppy pillows on the floor, lay on your belly and hold the bottles
  • Alternatively, put each baby in a bouncy seat and sit in between facing them
  • Prop bottles with rolled up burp cloths (a twin mom’s gotta do what she’s gotta do!)
  • Use some of your old t-shirts to put over your twins clothes to make clean up easier
  • Only put a few bites of food on their plates at a time to discourage throwing
  • Place an old sheet under high chairs to contain the mess
  • Remove the cute high chair covers that are such a pain to wash, or buy those cheap IKEA high chairs
  • Teach your twins early on how to feed themselves and buy child friendly utensils
  • Cut food with kitchen shears – one of my favorite twin mom hacks!
  • Use a garlic press to turn normal foods into a fast puree, especially helpful for on the go
  • Baby Brezza for formula feeding – a twin mom favorite!
  • Keep a crock pot going with water heating for fast bottle warming
  • Once they are on regular milk – reuse the same bottle/cup throughout the day – just put back in the fridge periodically
  • Wash bottles in the dishwasher

Organizing/Time Saving Hacks

schedule

Twin moms quickly learn how valuable every spare moment is! These time saving tips and tricks are genius!

  • Buy all white socks so you never have to search for a match
  • Buy duplicates (and unisex colors for Boy/Girl twins) of things like sheets, blankets, sleep sacks, hats and gloves, etc.
  • Diaper pail for poop only – throw pee diapers in the regular trash to save having to constantly change the bags
  • All the zip up pajamas (especially the ones that zip up from the bottom for diaper changes) and NONE of the ones with snaps!
  • Keep multiple baskets or totes around the house with diaper changing supplies
  • One of the biggest time saving twin mom hacks – STOP FOLDING LAUNDRY! Seriously!
  • Toy rotation – hide away half their toys or more in bins and rotate every week or two
  • Once a day, set a timer for 20 minutes. Do as much picking up/cleaning in that 20 minutes as you can, then be done and go relax
  • Use a puppy pad on the changing table to make clean up easy
  • Store pump parts in the fridge so you can wash them less often

Getting out and about with twins can be more trouble than it’s worth. These great twin mom hacks can make getting out easier and more fun!

  • Always keep your diaper bag stocked so it’s just grab and go
  • Keep a potty in the car for on the go emergencies – open a diaper and place it in the bottom for easy clean up!
  • Pump while driving!
  • Store some essentials like water bottles, wipes, diapers, etc. in your car just in case
  • Never forget the stroller – you may think you won’t need it for that quick trip to the bank, but with twins a stroller is never a bad idea
  • A carabiner is a twin mom’s best friend when shopping. Use it to attach a shopping basket to the stroller – or even to attach the stroller to a shopping cart!
  • Wear one twin and push the other in a small umbrella stoller then swap when they get fussy
  • Puppy pads for diaper changes on the go
  • Put two Bumbo seats in the basket of the shipping cart

Having twins can mean twice the night wakings and half the sleep for everyone. Here are some twin mom hacks to help everyone sleep a bit better.

  • Weighted sleep sacks, like these from Dreamland Baby, are life savers!
  • For twins in cribs, layer the sheets with waterproof covers in between to make changing faster when leaks happen at night
  • Size up for diapers at bedtime to prevent leaks, or put a larger diaper over their regular size diaper!
  • Portable sound machines so they can have them wherever they need to sleep
  • Don’t make the house silent while they sleep – get them used to sleeping while you vacuum, watch TV, do dishes, etc.
  • Black out curtains and white noise machines
  • 2 mesh bassinets in a crib to get newborn twins used to sleeping together while in their own safe spaces
  • Co sleeping and bed sharing helps a lot of twin moms get more sleep
  • Alternatively, other twin moms swear by sleep training and sticking to a strict routine

Bath Time Twin Mom Hacks

baby bath products

Bath time can be a wonderful calming and fun experience for many babies. For twins, it can sometimes be disastrous. Here are some great tips to make bath time easier and more fun with twins.

  • Place a laundry basket in the tub to keep twins and toys contained!
  • A handheld shower head makes rinsing much easier
  • Get in the bath with them!
  • Two small bathers for newborns should be able to fit in the tub at the same time
  • Use a dry washcloth when rinsing their hair to keep water from dripping on their faces
  • Take a shower with your twins
  • They don’t need baths every day – unless it’s enjoyable for everyone, cut down on baths
  • If you have an older child – give the twins a quick dip in the tub while your older child is bathing

Hopefully some of these twin mom hacks can help you as a parent of twins to make life just a little bit easier. Have some hacks of your own? I’d love to hear about them!
