Start a Cricut Business – a Stay at Home Mom Business Idea Favorite!

Ever heard of a Cricut? I hadn’t either until very recently. A Cricut is a nifty little machine that you can buy for less than $200. You can use it to create all kinds of amazing personalized items at home and sell them either locally or online. Stay at home moms are making money doing this right now and you can too.

To learn how, check out my good friend’s website Cricuter.com for some really helpful information on how to start a Cricut business right from your own home. Your only start up costs are the machine itself, the supplies to print on (think wine glasses, stuffed animals, holiday themed gifts, etc.) and the cost of selling online if you choose to go that route.

My friend gets most of her supplies at Dollar stores, uses her Cricut to personalize them, then sells her creations for a nice profit.

From what I hear, you don’t need to be all that crafty or creative to make money doing this. You can personalize pretty much anything! This is one of my favorite business ideas for stay at home moms.

Business Ideas for Stay at Home Moms – Start Your Own Blog!

Starting a blog can be hard work, but it can also pay off big time if you generate enough traffic to your website. It is an ideal business idea for stay at home moms to make money, since there is no restriction on what hours you can work. If you love to write and have a great topic in mind, blogging could be for you. Website building is pretty simple these days, and sites like WordPress.com can walk you through all the required steps.

You can start a blog with very low startup costs. Then you can make money on ads or affiliate marketing (including links to other people’s products in exchange for a percentage of the purchase price). Amazon has a great affiliate marketing program that accepts pretty much anyone. Many many other websites and products also have affiliate programs.

If you have a good following on social networks, you will have an easier time getting traffic to your site as you build your brand. Pick a topic that you know a lot about and start writing!

If this money making route interests you at all, I highly recommend Neil Patel’s website. There are so many great easy to read articles about starting a blog – I have read many of them!

Make Money by Writing for Other Blogs

make money as a stay at home mom

If the idea of building and managing a website is off-putting, but you still like the idea of getting paid to write, here is another idea. There are tons of blogs that accept submissions from just about anyone. You don’t need to have a resume or have been published anywhere before. Your writing will speak for itself.

If you know about your subject and you have good writing skills, start writing some articles and submit them to online blog sites. Many of the big parenting blogs, for instance, Her View from Home or Parents.com, will pay you for articles if they accept your submission. Just make sure to read the guidelines for submissions first.

Living DNA

You can make $50 or $100 per article that is accepted. This is a really great business idea for stay at home moms to make extra money – write as little or as much as time allows!

And remember, just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you have to write only about parenting and motherhood. There is likely to be a blog accepting submissions for any subject that you happen to be an expert on.

Check out Medium for another way to write blog posts without having your own website. They have a paid partnership program that’s free to join. You can write about anything, create posts with pictures and other media, and earn money directly from Medium!

Market Your Skills and Earn Money on Fiverr – Business Ideas for Stay at Home Moms!

Here is something I recently learned about and it is so exciting! Have you ever heard of the website Fiverr? It’s an amazing place where you can place ads to market your skills and get hired to do work directly through the website.

There are so many opportunities, and you can truly be your own boss. You can write blogs, ebooks, do web design, data entry, social medial management, graphic design, tutoring, music, cooking classes, and so much more!

All you need to do to get started is create an account, set up your profile, decide what skill you want to market, and set your price! The possibilities are endless, and how much or little you earn depends largely on your skill level and how much time you are willing and able to devote. I am so excited about this opportunity, I’m about to start earning money there myself! This is one of the newest business ideas for stay at home moms that I have added to the list, you should really check it out!

Babysit One or Two Children in Your Home

If you are a stay at home mom then you already know how to take care of kids. If you need some extra money, consider taking in another child or two during the week. Most states will allow you to watch one or two children in your home without a license. With the high cost of daycare and the internet connecting so many people, it shouldn’t be hard to find a family willing to pay a little less than the standard daycare fee to drop their child off at your home.

Now more than ever, with kids out of school and many parents unsure about daycare – stay at home moms willing to watch someone else’s children have an opportunity to make money.

Not sure how to get started? Just check your local Facebook group. You’re likely to find plenty of posts from local moms looking for childcare. Or, if the group allows, post your own ad.

Remember to be responsible about it. Working parents will be depending on you to be there when you say you are going to. If you like going out a lot during the day and having freedom to come and go this business idea may not be for you. But it can be a good way to start earning money while still staying home with your kids.

Depending on the age of the child, you might actually find this makes your life easier! If you have only one or two kids at home, having a new playmate over during the week can free you up to get some household chores done!

Start a Social Media Business at Home

Do you have any idea how many small businesses are run by people who know nothing about social media? Well I don’t have exact figures, but I imagine it has to be tons! My own father has a contracting business and has been getting leads by placing ads in local newspapers. Not a terrible idea if your only clientele is over the age of 60 – but for the younger crowd, social media is everything!

If you are good at this, start a social media management business right from your own home. Chances are you will find plenty of local businesses who would love to have a social media presence but just don’t know how or don’t have the time. This is such an awesome business idea for stay at home moms, especially for moms who love social media!

Finding your first client will be the biggest hurdle, especially if you don’t have a lot of content to back you up. But once you get that first lead and make it a success, there’s no limit to how big you can grow your business. This business idea is one of my favorites on the list!

Get Hired By a Company That Offers Telework

This is a tricky one, because if you get hired for a full time position you may find it difficult working and also watching your kids. But ever since the Coronavirus Pandemic, many companies are more willing to be flexible about this. If your kids are older or in school, this may be right for you. There are SO MANY companies that offer jobs that are FULL TIME at home. Insurance companies, tech companies, etc. These jobs come with actual benefits, paid time off, etc. So if you want to be home but aren’t ready to give up a full time income, this might be for you.

Costway - $30 OFF on $299 or more when using Klarna

Some of the top companies that offer work at home jobs include Amazon, Intuit, Dell, Humana – the list is really long and growing. So if you are interested in something like this, start applying. Many of these companies offer work at home opportunities for every career level, from customer service rep to senior analyst to management. All you need is a resume and a space to work comfortably.

Start a Pet Sitting Business

Do you have experience with animals? Do you mind having an extra pet or two in your home? If you think you might enjoy caring for other people’s pets either during the day or overnight – this might be the business idea for you!

These days, people treat their pets almost like children – and many people are looking for an alternative to the standard “kennel” when they need to board their dogs. While some want to have pet sitting done in their own home, many others are willing to drop their dog off for the day or long weekend at someone else’s home, especially if the price is right.

Head over to your local Facebook group to find people looking for pet sitting, or get listed on a pet sitting site like Rover.com. What’s great about this kind of business is that you are allowed to discriminate. You can determine your availability (blocking off whatever time you like) and what type of pet you will be willing to sit for.

Just make sure to have realistic expectations. You might be tempted to say yes to everyone, but it could end in disaster if you over extend yourself!

Become a Social Media Influencer

This might sound daunting, but it’s actually not that hard to get followers on Tiktok and Instagram. You can learn all about this on Neil Patel’s site as well. It takes time, a bit of creativity, and a good idea (think niche, the same as starting a new blog). If you put in the time and have a good idea, you will start to gain authentic followers.

Once you have enough real, engaged followers, you can start working with brands to help spread the word about their products. Paid partnerships on Tiktok and Instagram pay good money, and it’s another totally flexible business idea that you can do any time of day that works for you. This is why this is another of the most ideal business ideas for stay at home moms.

Tiktok is also becoming a place for influencers to earn money. In fact, it’s even easier to get followers on Tiktok. Check it out – it’s a super fun app even if you don’t end up posting anything!

The Honest Company

There are so many business opportunities these days for stay at home moms to make money while also being home with their kids. Hopefully one of these suggestions will work for you!
