10 Online Homeschool Curriculum Picks for the 2024/2025 School Year

10 Online Homeschool Curriculum Picks for the 2024/2025 School Year

Today we’re going to look at 10 awesome online homeschooling curriculum picks for the upcoming school year. I’ve got online math and reading programs, online science courses, online social studies programs, and more. So keep reading to learn about some of the best online homeschool curriculum picks so that you can get a little time back in your day.

First Online Homeschool Curriculum Pick – Night Zookeeper

First up we have a really cool reading and writing program that I think your kids will love called Night Zookeeper. This is a homeschool language arts program for kids ages 6 to 12 that teaches reading, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation and reading comprehension in a way that feels more like a game than a language arts course.

But this program is sneaky, so even when your kids think they’re just playing, they’ll actually be learning a lot! And maybe the best part of this program is that it encourages kids to develop their creative writing skills, which is something that a lot of homeschool language arts programs are lacking in.

With Night Zookeeper, your child will create and collect animals for their zoo that they can level up by completing various activities. They get to get really creative designing their zoo animals, and they can also add animals that were created by other Night Zookeeper users. They’ll answer questions about their zoo animals and write fun stories about them too. And don’t worry if your children have been less than enthusiastic about writing. This program will encourage and prompt them in a way that makes it fun!

There are also a lot of fun games to play that will help improve their spelling and vocabulary. They can play these games any time, or continue working on expanding their zoo collection. They’ll even get feedback on their writing by Night Zookeeper’s team of qualified tutors.

Night Zookeeper is designed for your child to be able to work independently, so you’ll be able to get some time back in your day to get some things done. When you want to view your child’s progress, you can just log on to your own parent portal. I really like that it shows you how many words your child has written in the program. You can also view their writing submissions.

You can try Night Zookeeper out for yourself for 7 days risk free, and after that, you’ll pay $12.99 a month or $118.99 for a full year. But if you use my link that I’ve shared with here, you can save 50% off an annual subscription, so you can get a full year for less than $60.

Mystery Science

Next on our list is a really fun online science program called Mystery Science. This is definitely my daughter’s favorite out of all the homeschool curriculums and programs that we do. And while you can definitely have your child do these lessons on their own, I have to admit I find them so fun and interesting that I usually end up doing them with my daughter. So it’s something fun that we get to do together than I don’t have to teach or plan myself.

Mystery Science is a standards aligned online science program for kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade. They offer complete lessons in topics such as plant adaptations, life cycles, weather and climate, the human body, electricity and energy, that explore science in a way that’s really engaging. Students will following along with a video lesson that also walks them through completing a hands on activity. The activities are usually done on paper, so they’re pretty simple to prepare. Even the more involved activities use items that you likely already have at home.

You can go in order with the lessons or let your child jump around to what interests them. And when you don’t have time to complete a full lesson, there are tons of 5 minute mini lessons that answer questions such as “why do leaves change color in the fall?” or “what’s the hottest place on earth?” There are so many of these to watch, your child will have a lot of fun browsing through the videos, and it’s certainly a lot safer than letting them browse through YouTube.

You can get a free trial of Mystery Science that will take you all the way through to June of 2025. But the trial doesn’t include access to all the lessons, so if you get through all the free lessons and want to buy a membership, you’ll pay $119 for the school year. And for the amount of fun you’ll have with this, I think it’s well worth it.

Zearn

Next is a completely free online math program that I really like called Zearn. There are a lot of online math programs out there, but finding something that’s high quality and also happens to be free is pretty awesome. Zearn is used by teachers in classrooms, but it can be used for homeschooling your kids as well. Just sign up for a free account to get started.

Zearn is designed for kids in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and includes short video lessons, interactive online activities to check for understanding, real time feedback, and even offline work and assessments that you can print out, all at no cost.

I like the lessons on Zearn because they are interactive, so your child will answer some questions during the lesson instead of just watching the whole video first. They also include real people in the videos, which is always a plus. The practice exercises are colorful and fun and they change it up so it’s always a new challenge. And there are so many resources for parents to help you teach the lessons, which I think is really great.

Schoolhouseteachers.com

If you’re looking for an affordable online resource for Christian teaching materials, I highly recommend Schoolhouseteachers.com. I think you’ll be surprised by all the great resources you can get on this website. One membership covers your whole family, and if you use the link I’ve shared with you here and code MONTHLY, you can get a membership for just $14.98 a month.

Schoolhouseteachers.com includes tons of printable materials to help you teach math, language arts, science, history and more. They also include helpful planning tools, a video library, and access to the Worldbook online resource library.  They also have a ton of unit studies to choose from, which is my favorite way to use this homeschooling resource.

If you’re looking for a complete online homeschooling program that includes everything you need to homeschool from Kindergarten through 12th grade, you can use Schoolhouseteachers.com for that too. Just choose one of their schoolboxes, and you’ll get all the tools are resources organized for you to teach one grade level at a time.

Muzzy Foreign Language Program

There are a lot of online foreign language programs that can be used for homeschooling, such as Rosetta Stone or Babbel, but most of those are designed to be used by older kids and adults. If you’re looking for a foreign language program for younger kids, I really like the Muzzy Foreign Language Program.

Your kids can learn Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Italian, or even English if English is not your child’s first language. Whether your kids are toddlers or teenagers, all ages can benefit from this program, even if they aren’t reading yet.

You can access to one language, like Spanish, for a payment of $30 for three months. Of course you can save if you pay for a year or even 24 months up front. For $44 for 3 months, you can get access to all the languages on Muzzy. Kids will learn by watching videos and playing games, as well as through printable worksheets and flashcards.

Muzzy works by immersing kids in the language much the same way they learned their first language. You won’t have to teach anything with this program, just sit back and watch you kids have fun learning a new language (and maybe pick up a new language yourself!)

Study.com

Next is a program that I think is a must have for all homeschool families, called Study.com. You can use this for your entire online homeschooling program for 3rd through 12th grade, but I really like it for being able to teach one course at a time. A subscription to Study.com gives you access to their library of over 88,000 lessons. So it’s just a great tool to have when you need to teach a certain unit or subject.

You can browse through their course catalogue at any time and add any course you want to your course list. In addition to their full courses in math, science, history, and all these other courses, Study.com also offers test prep courses, which can be really useful in helping your child study for the SAT or ACT. They also have courses to earn transferable college credits, with proctored exams that you can take from the comfort of you own home.

You can get a basic membership to Study.com for $29.99 a month, and I just think it’s a really useful website where you can have your child take some courses throughout the year and beef up your homeschool curriculum, especially when there’s a certain subject you prefer not to have to teach yourself, or just need to free up some time. You can save 25% off your first month with my link which I’ve shared with you here.

Essential in Writing

Another really good grammar and writing program that you can access on your computer is Essentials in Writing. This is a video based program that covers all grades from kindergarten through high school. Each lesson consists of a short video followed by physical worksheets, so your kids will be getting some important handwriting practice as well.

This program requires minimal setup from parents. Just print out the worksheets (or have them mailed to you already printed) and turn on the video and your child is ready to go. My 9 year old daughter used this program all last year and really enjoyed it, and we’ll be doing it again this coming year, so I definitely recommend it as a great writing program for your homeschool.

The essentials in writing program is just $89 for a full course if you print the worksheets at home. If you prefer to have them printed and mailed to you, it will cost $109. You can also add optional assessments for an additional cost.

Kids will learn about parts of speech, sentence structure, writing paragraphs and essays, using proper punctuation, and all the important grammar and writing skills that you want your kids to learn. And the videos explain things really well and aren’t too long, so your kids can grasp one concept at a time, which I really like.

Supercharged Science

If you’re looking for a science curriculum that includes lots of hands on science labs that you can do in your own home, I highly recommend Supercharged Science. I recently reviewed this program on my YouTube channel and I was really impressed with the quality of this program. They offer a full science curriculum for Kindergarten through 8th grade, plus full high school Physics and Chemistry courses. And there are tons of science experiments that you can do at home with supplies that are easy to find.

With Supercharged Science, your kids will be learning mostly from doing the science experiments, so it’s really like a science lab course that you can do at home. Each lesson consists of a video to show you how to do the experiment, which you then do at home, and a worksheet to complete about what you learned. There are also end of unit assessments to make sure your child understands the science concepts before moving on.

You can do the units in any order, and just focus on one topic at a time, or go by grade level. And if you’re already using another science curriculum at home, you can use their curriculum comparison guides to line this up with your current curriculum.

You can get access to this cool science program for $37 a month for K – 8th grade, and $57 a month for high school. One membership covers your whole family which is really nice.

BJU Press

If you’re looking for an online Christian homeschooling program with video lessons and physical textbooks, you should probably check out BJU Press. You can shop by grade level or subject, and I love that you can purchase the video courses individually. Let’s say you’re looking for a Bible course. Just choose your grade level, and decide whether you need the textbooks included, and you’ll get instant access to their online video course. The print materials will ship right away, so you’ll have everything you need for a full grade level course.

You can view samples of the video lessons on their website so you can make sure this is something you think your kids will like before you buy it. And if you want to make things easy and just purchase a whole grade level kit, you can save some money by purchasing the bundle. You’ll even get to adjust the grade level up or down for up to 2 courses, which I think is really important and great that they offer that.

So if you’re looking to take some of the pressure off of having to teach and do the lesson planning, but still want a really great Christian curriculum, this is a great option for you.

CTC Math

If you’re looking for an affordable online math program for homeschool, you might want to check out CTC Math. This is a complete online math curriculum for Kindergarten through 12th grade, and homeschool parents can get this program for half price. A single membership costs $19.95 a month or $128.50 a year, or you can get a membership for the whole family for $29.95 a month or $198.50 a year. So if you go to sign up for this program, make sure you’re getting that homeschool discount before you pay anything!

You can get a free trial of CTC Math that will allow you to access the first lesson in each topic so you can check it out for yourself before you commit. Students will watch a short video lesson and will also be able to print off a lesson summary. Then they will answer some questions to check for understanding and work towards mastery. You can print out grade reports for each lesson, and view a results summary as well as your history of lessons, and take diagnostics test and exams. You’ll also receive a weekly progress report by email.

So that’s my list of 10 online homeschool curriculum picks for the upcoming school year. Hopefully you’ll find something on this list to try in your homeschool. If you have any questions on any of these programs, please let me know in the comments and I’ll be happy to answer!
